It's a New Day has grown since its inception. Here is a sampling of our ongoing and annual projects.
high school choir benefit concert
Each year, we stage a benefit concert that aims to combine the talents of the students from various local high schools in Ventura County. We mentor the students in voice and performance in preparation for the show, providing a professional production experience. In the past five years, we have donated nearly $40,000 back to the high schools' vocal music programs with the proceeds from this concert. These funds were used at the discretion of the choir directors to purchase sound equipment, sheet music, choir risers, and to stage concerts that in many cases could not have occurred without additional funds. We have been able to raise considerable awareness for music education in our local schools through this event.
Simi Teen Improv Comedy
Simi Teen Improv Comedy, or STIC, is a small group coached by Simi Valley native Richard Gabriel. It is designed to train high school students to think on their feet and build self-confidence along the way. STIC originally began early last spring and has since had three phenomenal performances at the Simi Valley Public Library. The magic of the "on-the-spot" humor in all of the improvisational games STIC performs is a fun experiences for people of all ages.
Music To Our Ears Concert Series
It's a New Day has formed a relationship with the Simi Valley Public Library. On the second Thursday of each month, It's a New Day hosts an evening concert in their Rose Garden Patio from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. These concerts feature children, students, and community members and are completely free to the public.
It's a New Day has recently begun producing local theatre shows. Our most recent project is a cooperative effort between It's a New Day and a group of English teachers from the Simi Valley Unified School District. In the fall of 2015, It's a New Day began producing theatre shows to supplement the literature curriculum in Simi Valley.
Ventura County Teen and tween Open Mic Night
Each spring, It's a New Day gathers high school students from all over Ventura County to compete in open mic competition. Students perform in front of an audience and a panel of judges from the entertainment industry. The top performers are awarded cash prizes, and the proceeds benefit It's a New Day and the hosting school!
